Overview

The project scope is at University of Calgary’s eastern edge of the campus, around the University LRT Station. Often considered a “Dead Zone” by students, this 18 acres of land is under-utilized and presents opportunities to address the university’s pressing issues like student housing, safety, and accessibility.

Site History
What Could’ve Been

University of Calgary has long operated as a commuter campus, but that wasn't the original vision: as early as the 1970s, planners intended to embed rapid transit directly beneath MacEwan Hall (the campus's social heart) to foster on-site community rather than push students toward off-campus commuting. That vision unraveled through the 1980s as vibration concerns, green-space preservation, and shifting priorities pushed the line to campus's edge, resulting in University Station opening in 1987 as an above-ground stop disconnected from campus
